About Vilene Jacobs

Vilene Jacobs is an admitted attorney and experienced mediator with her LLB and Master of Laws (LLM) degree, with a specialisation in the field of child law. She has extensive knowledge and experience of mediation, particularly with separating couples who have children. Even as a legal professional, she advocates mediation wherever reasonably possible, as it makes separations and divorces significantly less traumatic on the children and all the parties involved.

Her core belief is that mediation provides individuals facing family law dilemmas a platform to reach their own agreements, without being forced by each other’s legal representatives to submit to their demands. She focuses on constructive mediation that is centred on solutions and agreement in order to reduce conflict and promote understanding and mutually-beneficial compromise in the short and long term. With her legal qualifications, mediation certification and passion for bringing happiness to all of those she works with, she has been met with resounding support and success with those who have chosen to sit at her table.

Legal Practice Areas

Vilene Jacobs

Divorce

Divorces and separations are hard on any couple. Separations are often the right thing to do for couples who have found their needs or circumstances change to the point where they can no longer reconcile them fully.

Unmarried Couples

Sometimes unmarried couples with children decide to go their separate ways and there is often great uncertainty regarding the rights and responsibilities of both parents.

Mediation

Mediation of a family law dilemma does not seek to bring couples back together. It is not couple’s therapy. Mediation is a process of acknowledging the circumstance, and then seeking and discussing practical and legal solutions.

Child Law

Children

In any separation or divorce, the true victims are often the children involved. We have adopted the “voice of the child” practice which is a very meaningful and necessary step during the negotiation process.
